Could he maybe like me? If not, is there hope?

When I met him, we had this joke going between just us.We really got along well, and we were always together backstage(Hee hee, my life revolves around theatre!). I haven't seen him up until recently, and he acted a little shy around me, but I can't be sure. He always makes me laugh, and is a little reserved in nature, except of course when he's up on stage. Our families have a lot of respect for eachother, and we've always been friendly to oneanother. is there hope?
