What does it mean when..?

a guy calls you hot abd y often and you say thanks but remember you have a girlfriend and he says he sees nothing wrong with saying the truth and that he's not trying to get with me right now so were good?? what does he mean not right now?! His girlfriend leaves for another country for a school trip next week, what is he trying to do? we were talking before he started dating her.. were still friends.
