Why wont my mp3 music work?

ok i just recently restored my computer and before i did that the music from my mp3 player worked on my computer buit now it wont. i have a mic of mp3 and wma files on there but now i cant put them on my windows medida player. o and ive always wondered wats better windows media player or real player, or is there something better out there?
