Is Dharma Raju (Yudhishtir) a nobel man?

It is said that if Dharma Raja's (Yudhishtir) blood touches the ground, there will be a long term famine. If he is such a nobel person, why does he even participate in dice game and why does he lose his family and kingdom. With all these vices, how can he still be called a Dharma Raju
